Without valid consent (informed consent), even a professionally performed procedure legally constitutes bodily harm. The patient must have enough trust to be able to ask any questions. The answers given by the doctor must be fully satisfactory.  <\/p>\n\t\t\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-502b344 e-con e-atomic-element e-div-block-base content-768 padding-0 content-center e-502b344-bc392b5 \" data-id=\"502b344\" data-element_type=\"e-div-block\" data-e-type=\"e-div-block\" data-interaction-id=\"502b344\" data-e-type=\"e-div-block\" data-id=\"502b344\">\n    \t\t\t<h3 data-interaction-id=\"364721a\" class=\"heading-jakarta-30-600 e-heading-base\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-id=\"364721a\">The general process of providing information before a procedure<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"paragraph-inter-18-400 e-paragraph-base\" data-interaction-id=\"8f02bea\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-id=\"8f02bea\">Legally valid information must meet certain formal and content-related criteria:<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5e9ceee elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5e9ceee\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li><strong style=\"color: #122b49; font-weight: 600;\">The personal consultation:<\/strong><br\/>As a rule, the information must be provided in a personal consultation by the treating physician (or a qualified representative). Simply handing over leaflets or videos is not sufficient; these only serve as support. <\/li><li><strong style=\"color: #122b49; font-weight: 600;\">Timeliness:<\/strong><br\/>The patient must be informed in good time \u2013 meaning they must have sufficient time to consider the pros and cons. For elective (planned) interventions, this should be at least one day before the procedure. Ideally even earlier.  <\/li><li><strong style=\"color: #122b49; font-weight: 600;\">Comprehensibility:<\/strong><br\/>The information must be provided in language that laypeople can understand (avoiding incomprehensible medical jargon). Diagnosis and rationale (indication-related disclosure)<\/h4>\n\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"paragraph-inter-18-400 e-paragraph-base\" data-interaction-id=\"e47e25c\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-id=\"0mgiaye\">The patient must be informed in an understandable way what condition or finding is present and why the proposed measure (whether surgery, therapy or medication) is medically appropriate and necessary. Procedure and risks (course and risk information)<\/h4>\n\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"paragraph-inter-18-400 e-paragraph-base\" data-interaction-id=\"e47e25c\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-id=\"1fo9irl\">Procedure: What exactly happens during the procedure or therapy? What can the patient expect? <br><br>Risks: The patient must be informed about typical and specific risks, as well as rare but serious risks (e.g. paralysis, infections, death) that could be relevant to the decision.<\/p>\n\t\t\n<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-14cg8ur e-con e-atomic-element e-div-block-base e-48528ce-ffbcb55 padding-20 padding-24 \" data-id=\"14cg8ur\" data-element_type=\"e-div-block\" data-e-type=\"e-div-block\" data-interaction-id=\"48528ce\" data-e-type=\"e-div-block\" data-id=\"14cg8ur\">\n    \t\t\t<h4 data-interaction-id=\"12045bd\" class=\"heading-jakarta-18-700 e-heading-base\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-id=\"1725p7c\">3. Alternatives (information about alternatives)<\/h4>\n\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"paragraph-inter-18-400 e-paragraph-base\" data-interaction-id=\"e47e25c\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-id=\"14y68wb\">Are there other medically reasonable methods that achieve a similar goal but involve different risks or burdens? The doctor must not simply promote their preferred method, but must present genuine alternatives (e.g. conservative vs. surgical therapy) fairly. <\/p>\n\t\t\n<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0k5ou34 e-con e-atomic-element e-div-block-base e-48528ce-ffbcb55 padding-20 padding-24 \" data-id=\"0k5ou34\" data-element_type=\"e-div-block\" data-e-type=\"e-div-block\" data-interaction-id=\"48528ce\" data-e-type=\"e-div-block\" data-id=\"0k5ou34\">\n    \t\t\t<h4 data-interaction-id=\"12045bd\" class=\"heading-jakarta-18-700 e-heading-base\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-id=\"079siqj\">4.
